Hey everyone!

NIMHmuck's been pretty quiet of late, and the few players that have been around have been discussing ways we could make NIMHmuck an active muck again. From this discussion came the idea of a reboot. While the existing storyline served us well for much of the muck's existence, players have come and gone, and it's become difficult and intimidating to keep track of the various bits of continuity here and there. In short, we feel it's time for a clean slate.

So, what's the plan? We're still developing it, but currently we're planning to restart the muck continuity at around the point where the Rats arrive on the farm and Jonathan meets Mrs. Brisby and starts a family with her. This way, we start almost completely from scratch, with only the rats & mice's experiences at NIMH being set in the stone of canon. This means that we'll roleplay the events of the movie and/or book ourselves, essentially writing our own continuity through roleplay. This also means that we can diverge from the book or movie if we decide such a thing makes sense to do.

As mentioned, we're still working out details. If you have questions for me or the other wizzes, please let us know!

This is great news! Good the know that NIMHMuck is starting back up again. I'll be sure to let other fans know about this on Deviant Art, Fur Affinity, and other sites if possible. :)

WOW. 11 people. Much better than the 1 or 2 it usually is. And it's a weekday at that! I'm REALLY looking forward to Saturday!

Glad to hear things are developing here! :D I'm all for whatever you guys decide...though I may have to alter Brendan a bit, or just keep him out of the storyline til it's appropriate to bring him in :) I could always use Wesley and Sullivan for the time being. :)

Oh hey my account still works!

And this is very awesome! I was sad when NIMH started dying on me. Although I've been involved in many RP settings since then, it's great to be able to go back to my old (original) RP stomping ground.

I suppose I can use this opportunity to put forth a concern of mine: we need to have a standardized model for how the NIMH rodents actually age. The previous iteration had everyone have their own ideas about that, which was very confusing for continuity.

@Matthias: Just be careful not to stomp too hard. ;P

As for standardized model, it's something I've been working on. The way I see it, is this time around there are multiple strains that were successful with different side-effects and quirks, further complicated by the genetic codes of particular species, subspecies, and individual rodents. This has the potential to create complications with having children, particularly with feral rodents (to keep the population from rising too terribly fast and also explaining why the NIMH rodents try to avoid such relationships with feral rodents), but also of varying mutations when feral/NIMH and NIMH-Type1/NIMH-Type2 crossovers occur, allowing a wider range of physiological and psychological mutations in the population. I'm also running under the assumption that all NIMH viral strains that worked had varying degrees of permanent side-effects, including to 1st gens. Based on the unpredictability of the mutations among different strains (besides the obvious intelligence boost shared among all NIMH rodents), aging may follow a similar inconsistency. Some might have aged normally, while others might have appeared to stop aging altogether. In 2nd gen and beyond, I'd imagine they'd age normally until some seemingly random point at which that particular feature of a given mutation was activated, causing their aging process to slow. A good portion of these rodents might have their aging begin to slow around mid-adolescence, when hormonal levels peak.

What does all of that mean to the average player and/or ICly? It means that there is a great deal of flexibility in what your character can look and behave like (so long as it's approved by staff, of course), and that ICly the rodents might not really know the exact nature of what was done to them, even years after their escape. They would be as a species, still very much on a path of self-discovery, making the philosophical and moral dilemmas behind the inception of the Plan and its opposition by Jenner all the more poignant.

Interesting! Still, I'm wondering if the variable aging would just add more tension and tragedy than is desirable. After all, imagine if your spouse aged faster than you!

I personally like the idea that the NIMH mutation is not something the NIMH rodents can just forget about now that they've changed and isolated themselves. The idea that there are side-effects beyond intelligence and slow aging is an interesting one to me.

Hmmm...looks Like I shall have to dust off my all character soon enough...
