While making my way from the auditorium to the lobby of one of the local movie houses in the NY Metro area, I came upon something that I must say I found most repugnant. It was a display for the Christmastime release of Yogi Bear. Now mind you I watched the Hanna-Barbara cartoon as a kid many times and came to enjoy it to a degree. However, that does not mean that I feel that Yogi should be brought to the big screen so to speak. If anything, I feel just the opposite... That he and his ilk should remain just as I remember them on the tube. For the life of me, I cannot imagine what kind of plot the powers that be could have developed for this character that could sustain itself for the length of a feature film. From what I remember from my childhood, Yogi's claim to fame was that he was overly fond of raiding "pic-ka-nic" baskets (Yogi's pronounciation, not mine) which in turn brought him into constant conflict with Ranger Smith. Ths plot does get tired after a fashion though so I am not holding out much hope for this movie. Indeed I will be surprised if it breaks even during it s first week of release. When all is said and done, this may go down as just another load of crappy kiddie fare just in time for the holiday season.

Peace :)

While I do agree with you there, I will say one thing in Yogi's defense. It isn't Scooby Doo. I was a big fan of that series, and watched it go from a respectable cartoon to an absolute embarrassment of the franchise in a few short years. So I would say a Yogi movie is a welcome departure from the dead Scooby franchise.

That being said, I am still certain even with Dan Ackroyd providing the voice, this movie will still lack the spirit the original Yogi Bear cartoons once had.

Speaking as a massive Hannah Barbarah (sp) fan I can say that I whole heartedly agree with you.

For me I would wish to remember the classics as they are...classic.

Better they come up with more original works rather than risk tainting such wonderous images that I literally grew up watching. I still have a HUGE collection of VHS tapes in my wardrobe.
