Kay just got a second before I'm off to more fury fun, but Hey ya'll I'm at AC: room 609 (westin). Post if you're here.

I'm having a blast: huggling and skritching fur suiters, and non alike :) wish you where here: whoever you are.

I'm off: pictures soon to follow.

I'm glad to hear you're having fun, and I'm distinctly envious of all of your fun!

I definitely look forward to the pics! liHUGSli

Hope I didn't come off as rubbing it in there Xav. I have a tendency to do that: ask tod. Day two ends: and I be sleepy.

Nimh muckers thus far:
Ira, Tod, Jacob, Demi(soon to be :)), and me.
still looking for more. Who's out there?

I just wish the office would leave me alone: called me three times already. Here I thought I was on vacation.

I'm not up there. I will say I'm a bit sensitive to AC...as I hope you don't come across a certain someone I knew..

At least you don't talk bout it in an unbearable manner like they do on a certain art gallery I go to.

Bah, not at all Backwoods. If I had my way, I'd go to every con every year no matter what. Unfortunately it just doesn't work that way! liPoutsli I suppose I could work more than two if one wasn't as far away from me as MFM is, but there's so many great folks there that I can't help but want to return to MFM each year. Anthrofest is just way too close for me -not- to go, so its all good. Down side is I doubt I'll ever see many NIMH folks show up at AF. Not with it being all the way up here in scary Canada! ;)

Glad you're having fun, and wish I could be there too. That's all I meant by it. liHUGSli

updates to the list:

Shawnte, Indigo.

And a special treat to come: Rob Paulsen 'live' with nations of the world :). I really hope it recorded well. Otherwise typical con antics and fun: I'm on the security watch list for a frequent shoe less fur violations, and a romp through the convention center at full sprint with tod (who is surprisingly quick): but all is still well and fun {Though I begin to wear slightly}. And we made the local news: in a positive light. HORAY!!

No intentions of any sleep tonight. best wishes all, and I hope this convinces a few more to find their way to MFM. The rooms will be crowded, but hey furys are stackable :) Hehe

Aside xavier: Haven't got the answer yet: other things to talk about, but I will.

Hehe looks like you've just about got our MFM attendee numbers beat. If all shows as claimed we'll only have about 8 or so 'for sures' maybe 10 if a few extras show! Very cool on the list though. Lots of good and talented folks in there!

Though you've lost me on what you were trying to say with the "aside Xavier..." part lilooks confusedli

Someone's already convinced me lirubs multiple scarsli to try to go to MFM sometime. Probably not this year though. I guess if nothing else I can stay away from my parents if I ever go.

Raganzi

It's alright. everyone in their own time. My parents will learn someday: maybe. I just don't have to deal with the wrath directly.

This begs the question. What percentage of Nimh fans are furries, and which are not?

You would need to enumerate all of the fans to really say. And even then, it'd depend on what you define as a furry.

I myself have gone and plan to go to Mephit Fur Meet, though it's mostly because I have friends that go, and not out of any particular identification with 'furry'ness. I like animals, love a good story and enjoy good art (furry and non), but I'd consider myself more of an animation buff than a furry.

The problem with the label 'furry' is that there's a lot of baggage that goes with it that I feel doesn't describe me, depending on the definition you use.

I've been to a few conventions myself, but like Simon I don't particularly consider myself a furry. I'm much more interested in art and animation than any kind of 'lifestyle' that is associated with the furry fandom. The last convention I visited was Anthrocon in Philadelphia. It was an interesting experience, to say the least.

I grew up during what I would consider a 'golden age' of anthropomorphics. I used to watch shows like Tiny Toon Adventures, Tail Spin, Duck Tales, Animaniacs, and with great movies like The Secret of Nimh, American Tail, Lion King, etc. Those are the films that really influenced me, and got me interested in anthropomorphics to begin with.

I think a lot of the younger kids who are part of the furry fandom today got into it via the internet, rather than from popular films and television shows. They're more interested in Anime and internet trends. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just not something that interests me. I just lost interest in it after a while.

I've never been to a convention, and I'm very wary of going to one. For some reason, I have an uneasiness around suits made for mascotting. I'm not afraid of them, but its an uneasiness which I don't like. It has always been that way, even with amusement park mascots like Scooby Doo.

So, no. I'm not a furry. I'm an observer of. I don't like labels very much.

Cedric

I do like furry animals, but calling myself a furry might be an insult to the real furry community. I've never been to a furry convention in my life, and my chances range from possible to grim.

By the way, nice pics. Just some more fun I'll never have.
ligoes to look for a lucky charmli I may need any help or miracle I can get to get into anything more than a club.

Thats the thing Simon, what what you stated above is more than enough to 'classify' you as furry if you so desired to do so. What does or doesn't make one a furry in most cases is a very varying thing depending on the individual. Its more a 'self' label that one chooses for themselves or not.

Like I said, it really depends on the definition one uses. That said, I don't feel any particular identification with the furry community outside of where it intersects with the NIMH community, and I would probably say that's most of the reason I don't call myself 'furry.'

Zohar

To me, someone who is 'furry' is someone who is aimed at that particular group. Just because one likes animals and animal stories doesn't make them a furry. In truth, most of the published and widely known stories involving animals are wrongfully classified as "furry" within the community. What's wrong with that is the literature is not aimed specifically at the community, thus it isn't "furry".

I sure don't count Nimh as being "furry" because it wasn't aimed to the community. Nor do I count Redwall, Peter Rabbit, or mascots like Bugs Bunny "furry".

Cedric

28-07-2007 15:11:50

That is basically what I think. I like NIMH and Redwall (so sue me). I have an interest in wolves and especially coyotes. I also like reading fanfics from time to time.
So what? That just means I have really weird tastes (fitting to a very weird person like myself). I have no art skills, no people skills, and have never been to a furry convention in my life. I think those qualities are what count towards someone being a true 'furry'.
