Now that`s different, The mouse must have showed up at about the same time as the kittens, but still, who knows what really happened to spark such an strange bond.

I think what may have happened here is that this mother cat may have been taken away from her mother before she was of age to be taught how to deal with mice per say. A cat sees a mouse and may instinctively give chase. But the technique of administering the killing bite to the base of the skull has to be taught. If this is indeed the case, then the likely outcome will be that while she may be a good mother to her kittens, those kittens in turn will never learn the proper hunting methods for dealing with potential prey because their mother never learned them and it is she that is the one responsible for passing down these skills if any existed to begin with.

Peace :)

Well, there are other cases of natural enemies living together peacefully (like dogs and cats). Although, those cases are usually with pets. What are the odds of such a thing happening naturally?

I guess this is deviating completely from the topic, but this is another dvd I've GOT to get...

Darkwing Duck's where it's at.

Let's get dangerous!

while this is incredible it is not unheard of several animals adopt other animals when they become mothers. its just one of those rare things

I remember a sequence in a PBS documentary which illustrates NIMHmaniac's point. While a mother cat is nursing her kittens, here's a mouse weaving his way around them while Mom just looks on unconcerned. The narrator made the same point about cats not regarding mice as prey if they hadn't been taught hunting skills as kittens.
