Hey all

Just re-watching the movie, specifically the fight scene. And I got to thinking:

What was UP with Jenner raising the sword over his head, just before Justin stabbed him? From the perspective of knowing jack about fencing, leaving yourself open like that and not actually being close enough to inflict damage anyway seems monumentally stupid. This is puzzling, because up until that point, Jenner had been wiping the floor with Justin. In other words, he seemed to know what he was doing.

So yeah. Any thoughts on that one? Was it a super-advanced fencing move, or had he just, really, REALLY lost it at that point. (I'm leaning toward the second option myself.)

Jenner went ballistic.
He really went several monkeys short of a full barrel.

That is one of those scenes where anyone whose ever held a sword just has to ask why. It did somewhat cheapen Justin's vicory as far as I was concerned, but in all honesty swordfights between experienced fighters are usually won due to stupid mistakes, or surprize attacks.

I'd say at least part of it was Jenner's ego...he wouldn't be satisfied with merely stabbing Justin, he'd want it to be as spectacular as he could make it. Turned out to be a bad move, as we all know.

Thats pretty much it. Remember, his goal was to get the stone at all costs. So in doing so, his rage caused him to do some ill planned fencing moves.

I think at that point he was so crazed by the prospect of acquiring the Stone that his pride got the better of him, and he made a really stupid move in the process.

Hey, NIMH's not the only movie with idiotic swordplay. Just watch Gladiator, Lord of the Rings, or Pirates of the Carribean for more nonsense.

...Like in Dead Man's Chest when Keira Knightley TURNS AROUND as two squid-pirates are running straight towards her so she can do some stupid stabbing-two-swords-backwards-behind-you move that didn't make any sense whatsoever, the squidpirates, of course, ran right into them.

...It's all just posing for theatrics.

And that new movie 300 looks the worst and most stupidest yet. Have you seen where he's naked and armorless and then jumps down with his arms spread wide onto a bunch of guys holding up spears? All logic says he's a goner, and if you look at how history went for the Spartans, apparently he must have been.

I'd have to agree with Tzolkin on this one. Clearly his "Lust for power" was so great, that he was not able to think clearly. I also think as Slew alluded to in his reply, that ego played a part in his making what turned out to be; a fatal error. He must have thought that he could finish off Justin with one crushing blow, but instead he underestimated the smaller rats fighting skills and swordsmanship.

GrizzlyCoon, would you expect realism form the director of Sin City? Hells no. 300 is one of those stupid "historical factual events - meets - over budgeted holly wood greed mongers pushing the envelope of new fangled visual styles" kind of movies.
