Looking back at the scene

I'm thinking of the scene in TSON right after the battle with Jenner, and he and Sullivan have just been killed. It shows Mrs. Brisby walking away from the rats, then it switches to a shot showing her house in the background.

She turns and looks back at them for a moment, then slowly turns back to her house, still looking at them as she does so. I wonder what was on her mind then. Was she wondering what the rats would do next? Or wondering if they still planned to help her? It's a curious scene for a complex character.

The movie ends there, With a short scene of the kids, and Jeremy and chick.
Yes she was a complex character in the book/movie, but most noted as a "well rounded character" if such is real, but in the fan-fics Mrs Brisby has taken many paths in the rats plans, a fav. Paul S Gibbs, Tho not planned by the Rats she was the one if she where not there, all would be lost.

So even if the rats had a plan, lost or not,, it still was Mrs.Brisby who (tho she never knew) was the main player and in the end saved all..

I personally feel that being the type of character that Mrs. Brisby was, her first concern would be for her children. Indeed she does run up to the house as it sits in the mud and calls out to them asking if they're alright. As she leans against the cinderblock and quietly sobs to herself, I think that at this point she is just overwhelmed with grief from the tragic loss of Nicodemus plus as Slew724 alluded to in his query, the thought of getting her house moved still weighs heavily on her mind. Will the rats still be able to help her and if not, what's her next move? Who should she consult for help? Whom can she trust?

Peace :D

That was always one of my fave scenes. Certainly everyone, Brisby and the rats alike, were very demoralized by then, by Nicodemus's sudden death and Jenner's owning up to it, which apparently none saw coming, to Justin being forced to battle him to the death...all this had to weigh heavily on her. With the equipment a shambles, would the rats be able to finish the job? And when she hears Teresa ask, "Mother, are we almost moved?" and she answers "Soon now," I got the impression that she immediately regretted saying that, but what else could she say? That the equipment is wrecked and the house will have to stay where it is and Timmy may die after all? Of course, things were about to get more complicated...
