Hey all, yes it's me LordDirk, Back from vacation!

well, while on vacation I did a little thinking. Relating my game to the actual movie nimh, and factoring costs and time. Perhaps I was a bit overzelous.

So, I worked on some other ideas Nimh based, that would be much much easier to make, especially for my new found coder.

1: A multiplayer online game, much like unreal tournament. But instead of picking up various weapons, you pick different characters and use them based on skill settings like speed, accuracy, strength. 3rd person perspective, and one weapon per character, most likely a sword or close combat weapon. lithis one would be the easiest to makeli liand would allow allot of peoples personal characters to get in the gameli

2: Another online multiplayer game, lithey all areli but this one is TEAM DEATHMATCH style, my favorite mode. here you again have character types, but all belong to a specific faction, like Battlefront, Star wars. You can play as the NMC who have more ranged weapons, but are physically weak. The NRC which are stronger, and have better reflexes but still dont have much strength. OR the Demon Hunters, who are strong, but brutal and have bad accuracy. Again the main weapons, lispare the NMC and some bows and arrowsli will be mostly close quater types. I might even add in unlockable liheroli characters like in battlefront. to allow Muck characters to be in the game.

so, what are your thoughts on it? using these I wouldnt need to buy more programs and my coder wouldnt have to do allot of heavy coding. Plus I think that the added bonus of having peoples characters running around in the game is a huge bonus. I mean, wouldnt YOU like to play as your character and battle it out with justin, jenner, Rapta, Ranger, and the gang? I might even have a mrs. brisby character as an unlockable liusing the stone of courseli

any and all comments will be apreciated!

thank you for your time! :)

LordDirk

Great idea. I liked your other idea, too. But this is also neat. I'll support you regardless of your decision. Personally, I think an online multiplayer might be a better way to go.

Sounds very intriguing, LordDirk. By the time you finish it, perhaps I might have Windows XP dual booted on my Mac. Team deathmatch has always been my fav amongst games like Halo and Halo 2, Unreal Turny and so on.

lithis one would be the easiest to makeli liand would allow allot of peoples personal characters to get in the gameli

How would you achive allowing players to add their own personal characters? A generalized character creation script(as seen in a lot of RPGs)? Or allow for custom model making?

LordDirk

30-08-2006 08:02:50

heh, no I'll be making everything myself. It'd be more on a request basis. You'd request your character in the game and I'd do my best to creat him/her.

VictorDTarsus

30-08-2006 13:09:47

Thats cool. I just might request a character, but not right now. I have to work out my fan-fic to the point where my character would be more widely known (btw, my nimh site is running now, all can see it at The Secret of Thorn Valley[=http://www.tgi-media.com/furry/nimh/]The Secret of Thorn Valley, click on the buttons under the centre piece and away you go to that portion of the site.)

Cedric

30-08-2006 16:52:29

I may make a request as well. Sometime in the near future. Keep up the good work.

Tell me LordDirk, do you have any idea what level of video card may be required in the end release of your nimh game? Something light like a 32MB card or anything between 32 and 128?

Nimhster

30-08-2006 20:07:08

Very cool! I really hope this goes through!

Cedric

31-08-2006 17:45:09

Like I said before, feel free to use my char. I think there's a pic of him somewhere in the gallery.
By the way, he's Cedric.

LordDirk

I dont think you'll need any special equipment for this, it's using the torque engine.

VictorDTarsus

31-08-2006 21:21:44

Even though my MacMini has an integrated 64MB Integrated chip-set, at least the torque engine is a light weight but effective shading engine after all.

Oh, yeah before I forget, check out my nimh game site for examples of level design in the Screenshots section. Level 5 is my favourite so far.

I wonder what became of this? Team Deathmatch with NIMH characters doesn't sound right. I can't see a competitive multiplayer NIMH game ever being successful. Though it would be funny to see Mrs. Brisby spew out racist and homophobic gibberish like a 12 year old who hasn't had his jewels dropped yet. A better option would be a single player story with co-op support.

You know what would be cool? A prequel to NIMH that's a video game. The Wondering Days offer many possibilities for a video game. You can start with an escape level and go from there. Playable characters would include: Justin, Jenner, Jonathan, Mr. Ages, Nicodemus, and Arthur. You can have co-op support for up to 6 people and have adventures in the outside world.

Why not do a lego star wars-style game with NIMH characters in it. It could chronicle the events before the film, the film itself and fan-written sequels such as Rats Of Thorn Valley and The Secret Of The Stone.

I've never played any of those Lego games, so I can't comment on that. However, I think fan made sequels, especially the Paul S. Gibbs' sequels should stay away from any NIMH game.

Alucard5200

15-09-2011 17:33:34

Would you prefer the god awful Timmy To The Rescue? At least fan made sequels are (for the most part) good, unlike that cheap cash in that hardly deserves the NIMH title.

Dude, they're loads of fun! I've got the first two on Gamecube. The upgrades in Complete Saga, as well as the existence of LEGO Indiana Jones make me want a 360/PS3 SOOO BADLY!!!

So. LEGO Secret of NIMH? Or maybe a general Secret of NIMH game with the LEGO Star Wars engine? It'd actually be pretty interesting to see the Rats, Mrs. Brisby, or Jeremy fall to pieces...

Well, why not Timmy to the Rescue? The very first LEGO Star Wars game was based off of the Prequel Trilogy (That trilogy is the Timmy to the Rescue of the Star Wars Saga), and the series of games just skyrocketed from there. If TttR is included, players also get a chance to beat the blocks out of Cecil the Caterpillar over and over and over, the way LEGO Star Wars players do to Jar-Jar Binks.

Actually, I take that back. A game about a mouse and four rats gathering intel about a government funded project would be really cool. Of course, you would have to deal with Jonathan's bipolar disorder by giving him a hug and a Twinkie every 30 minutes.

A Secret of the Stone game would be cool as well, but I dunno how you would go about doing it.

Not at all, he's my second favorite character. The shrew being the first. He's the most ambiguous character, yet the most important. You would have to read Rats of Thorn Valley to get the bipolar disorder joke.

I guess I gotta read a lot of the fanfiction here. And I'm not even halfway through Secret of the Stone!

I just meant a NIMH game with the LEGO engine. Not with the lego characters or anything like that.

But then how would we get the characters to fall apart?

They're are other ways. Like having them fall to the ground and respawn next to you a second later.

Aw, that's no fun. Say, in the earlier LEGO Games, some of the parts disappeared and only three pieces were left. Perhaps the character could disappear and their clothes are all that's left.

So many levels to play from the book and movie :)

Put on a pot of coffee and take a week off of work.

How about if Timmy to the rescue was an extra level and instead have the sequel be entirely original instead of being based on some crap
cash-in.

..Also I have nothing against bipolar disorder as you can see in my signature. I need a hug and a twinkie sometimes too.

That's why I sometimes get manic and post that infamous child protagonist rape game post and other times I just don't really care to explain myself.

I have a hard time organizing thoughts into forum posts, which is my my sentences don't flow very well. It also explains the stupid slilit I've described doing in other posts.

So in case you're wondering what drives shivermetimbers to insanity, blame the mania.
