I've recieved multiple questions on ranger's backstory, hehe, and well I'm rather tired of repeating myself, so I'll do it once more here and then just use this link when I need it. feel free to post comments, I'd love to see what you think of Ranger's backstory, and how he became so evil incarnate like.

With the addition of the rat known as (the second) ranger has two possible backstories, one's fairly new due to this development.

Ranger can be one of two possible characters. Victor Fray, of the Fray family, a very disfunctional family, and One of nicodemus's personal guards, if not the only one. The other is a slim chance that Ranger is directly related to nicodemus, which might explain the glowing eyes. anyways, we'll explore that in a bit.

The fact of the matter is, is that both started out completely normal, and slowly slipped into insanity over the years after nicodemus's death.

Victor, being the personal guard for nicodemus, was left purposless after his death. Feeling as though he failed in his duty, and utterly mornful of his master's death. Victor soon could not take the guilt any more, and in an attempt to find purpose for his life, he left the colony.

Victor, after hiking for many weeks, came across what is only known as (the cave) at first glance it seemed like nothing more than a hole in the rockslide, a place for shelter. He had no idea of the horrors he would experience their.

Who know's what it truely was, perhaps some sort of degeneration of his mind, due to months and months alone, or perhaps his visions were true. Never the less, what Victor believed he saw, was a large serpant, a snake. The snake was large, VERY large, and about it were dozens upon dozens of rats, feral rats. Somehow the snake seemed to have brainwashed the rats into thinking it was a god of sorts, not so hard when your public are feral rats. Victor was taken by the rats and the snake (god).

The snake being oddly inteligent, noticed Victor's superb physical status, and brain power. It decided to offer him a deal. in exchange for his services as a hunter and watchman, Victor would be granted mercy and keep his life. Victor agreed, but saw no such mercy.

indeed the snake did not kill him, but torture him he did. Endless beatings and poundings of both the mind and body kept Victor in check, and too week to venture too far from the cave. Victor seemed to excell in ranged combat, utilizing knives and daggers, from his earlier guard days. The snake saw fit to call him RANGER, and the name stuck.

But their was Another in the cave, ANOTHER white rat like himself. The name has not yet been found out yet, but the two shared on canny similarities in body and look. The other, soon to be known as the second, seemed to be tasked with cleaning up after the large snake (god), and was kept in the darkest corners and out of the way.

The two, now knowing of their combined intelect, began work on an escape plan. Ranger being the favorite of the snake, worked harder to gain the large serpants trust, and make him blind to all else around him. Meanwhile the Second snuck extra food and stored it for eating later. In time Ranger became very strong and tall, blaming it on good excersize while hunting, while the second remained mere skin and bones.

In the end, when ranger was finally strong enough, he attacked his snake captor. But to his dismay, the ferals in the cave fought for their (god), and ranger had to rip and tear his way through close to 300 feral rats, with nothing but his bear paws. He killed both the snake and the rats by causing an avalanche from one of the stalagtites, crushing his foes. But alas, it also doomed the second as well, as ranger could not go back and save his comrad, as planned.

From then on, ranger dawned many outfits, his most notable was the red hood and loin cloth. He vowed to do everything in his power to stop that sort of evil from spreading again. he finally had purpose.

Months passed and ranger bided his time. he watched from the shadows and learned his new found pray's moves and styles, their way of life, way of thinking, so when the time came, he would be ready.

Balak was the first to experience ranger's immense fury. Caught off guard by his almost unatural speed and tactical fighting. But balak proved equally tough, with an almost impenetrable hide, and advanced knowlege in wrestling and grapling maneuvers. Balak and Ranger are probably the most evenly matched foes on the muck, and it can lead to HUGE and exciting battles.

During this period in time, ranger fights MANY battles, clashing blades with the biggest and the toughest of the valley. Brutus, Enkidu, Hecate, Helios, Balak, Boma, etc., and proved himself to be quite a nasty opponent, and never one to play fair.

Rapta came later, she had met ranger before, but never fought him. Ranger wanted her most of all, she was his main target. But he failed in his attempt at her. She having slipped some poison onto a letter she gave him, soon had the advantage. But rapta too was caught off guard by rangers fury when he became violent, and in the end it took her and balak to bring the speedy rat to a hault.

Ranger was at her mercy, and oh did she toy with him. In a pool of poison and potion did she reshape his mind. Soon ranger wasnt just fighting his so called evil doers, Ranger was now out to decimate ALL life he found unfit to walk the earth. Utterly mad and bloodthirsty, rangers self ritiousness was turned against him. Everything was sin, and everything needed to be purged. Dawning all black, and the bones of his fallen enemies, Ranger became a masterpiece of rapta's demented mind.

He gathered ferals, and taught them how to wield swords and weapons, if somewhat cruedly. He made them spys and hunters. He even aquired a large mountain lion by the name of Firefoot, (more of a partnership)

He began to look for allies. Boma is one he keeps an eye on, but finds rather intruiging.

He even tried to love once.. but his wife was stolen from him, thrusted upon a spike by his many enemies.

Ranger had lost it all, and became nothing more than bloodthirsty and vengeful. Even his own daughter did he try to make into the ultimate warrior, showing no fatherly love what so ever.

During this time, a mysterious rat came about. The second, seeming to have escaped the cave. He has made a few brief enterances but stays hidden most of the time. Ranger seems more out to get him, than he is to get ranger. Quite the opposite of his bloodthirsty twin of sorts, the second shows much compation and the ritousness of ranger's earlier forms.

Oddly enough it is Ranger's eyes that glow, the second's does not, and is visably smaller in size. Did they get switched at one point? is Ranger really victor? or is the second actually the guard rat from the colony. And if so, then where did ranger come from? WAS he nicodemus's son?

Anyhoo, Currently Ranger is massing an attack on the Rat colony. he hopes on stealing the stone and using it to transform the world into HIS image, to undo all the wrongs that were done to him, all the tragedy. To put the world into his own utopia, to change everything. A truely selfish attempt, but that's ranger for you. He has seen no compation, lost all.. he cannot return but what he knows , and that is pain and suffering.. and death of the soul.

if you have any questions, please ask and I will do my best to answer.

I'm one of the guys who's pestered you about Ranger's history and back story. This was a brilliant idea on your part. :)

The intrigue and mystery surrounding those two rats is a new twist, I believe, but it certainly adds flavor to the tale. :) As does the list of all Ranger's myriad enemies. :)

I'm eagerly awaiting the assault on the colony.

I feel sorry for him. He just wants revenge after his beatings, attempts, and fights. He may be very violent on the outside, but it doesn't mean he's bad on the inside. Right or wrong?

Well, I'm not Ranger's player, so I can only speak from my experiences RPing with Ranger and characters closely affected by Ranger, such as his much-abused daughter Vanessa.

My gut tells me that Ranger's pure evil, the physical embodiment of Hate and Rage. And let's not forget a cannibalistic psycho--he threatened to eat my character and the rest of the guards he fought with the night I met Ranger ICly on the muck. :)

So yeah, if you're thinking some kind of Vader-esque redemption's possible...I'm thinking no...but again, I'm not Ranger's player. This is just my gut feeling on the issue.

INdeed ranger is quite evil. The main thing is that it started with him (very vader'esce) given choices and choosing the wrong ones.

Ranger is Arrogant, but tactful, Bloodthirsty, but also knows when to be stealthy.

Ranger is quite complicated. He enjoys the thrill of the hunt, the fierceness of battle, but he also knows what pain is. Most people who have fought ranger will probably say that he comes in quick and furious, but when things get hot he knows when to stay back a bit, and really let his opponent wear out.

As far as redemtion goes.. hmm.. The only real thing I was planning on was that when he tries to use the stone, it works, but backfires on him. (further into the nicodemus relationship) perhaps that will be his redemtion, only through the stone can he regain what he has lost and thrown away, in his insane rage for revenge.

Hey LordDirk,

Somebody (I forget who) raised an interesting point on the muck last night, just before we resumed that RP where you're about to behead Timothy with your bare paw.

What does the colony know/think it knows about the disappearance of Victor Fray? Do they know he's become Ranger, or do they just think he went nuts and vanished into the forest, never to return?

the colony only knows that victor dissapeared shortly after the death of nicodemus, he has been presumed dead. very few know of ranger's true past. VERY few.

Hmmm...

That leaves me wondering what everyone's reaction will be to Ranger's reversion to Victor (assuming you're going through with that idea, of course). :)

The ramifications of having Victor be the hero that slew Ranger, or the villain that once was Ranger, will be enormous. Not to mention making for really good RP. ;)
