On the non-NIMHY side,
You know, I never thought that they looked like much, but after the 9-11 attacks we here at Edwards Air Force Base as with other miliary installations beefed up our entery gates and so on. We have the same "Pop up" barriers" and they do pop up fast at the push of a button. well since seeing them now used for the first time in the USA, I thought they would`nt stop a desert rabbit but I was wrong, We got a E-mail brief on this from a sister base, and here is the scoop that we got...

"thought you might be interested in this. Last week, someone tried to run the Swan Gate at Davis-Monthan AFB here in Tucson. They found out the hard way that the pop up barrier works.
I haven't sent this to the group but you can if you want to.
Pictures of the pop up barrier at Davis Monthan AFB are enclosed.
Truck meets our new popup barriers this morning inside the Swan gate.
The truck went from 50 mph to 0 mph in about 1 inch. Driver and passenger were both drunk and high, drugs and a gun were found in the vehicle. Both of them were also unbuckled, so needless to say they had a date with a local ICU nurse. I guess we can say these barriers are operational.

PS- Both are illegal intruders from Mexico. The driver is hospitalized and will be arrested when he gets out of intensive care. The passenger was taken out of the Tucson hospital a few days ago and sent back to a hospital in Mexico so the Mexican government can take care of him. It saves the U.S. tax payers money!
He was probably back in this country before the bus that took him to Mexico got back to Tucson!"

I guess those signs that say "DO NOT ENTER!!" really mean something. It's a shame too, that looked like a pretty nice truck.

Drunk driving + high = stupid people.

That's cool... except in a way that denies any coolness, I guess. The illegal immigrants in my area are usually pretty smart about downplaying their presence, which means any deportation going on must be kept under tight wraps (not sure why).

Those barriers though... very cool. They don't look like they even took a dent, which I suppose is given considering their purpose and the fact that they are government grade barriers. But yeah, very interesting.

As Living in another of the most southern states, I must say your hammer hit the nail on the head and creamed it .

Well, we have never had to stop a truck like that yet at our base, but those young men and women in Arizona, at their base showed the best that our men and women in the armed forces can do while in the USA.
As also overseas.
Tod, the truck was awesome and hate to see it be destroyed, but some is at fault... it looks a company truck, so who or what company hired them.

I bet when that person bought the truck, he, nor the manufacturer ever expected the vehicle would, or even could stop on a dime... heh.
