:?: Question :?:

Alright, We all knpw that Nimh is just about the best fo Bluth's creations right? Well I was just wondering what people think about his other works such as:

An Amarican Tail
An Amarican Tail: Fival goes West
Thumbalina (I myself had not seen this but I have heard of it)

I am sure there are others but I can't think of them of the top of my head.

Let me know your oppinions about these and others.

Thats all for now!

I have seen the first installment of "An American Tail" and in my honest opinion, this is the best of the lot. Like SON, thiis movie had an excellent storyline and plot. there was just the right mix of danger without going overboard into gratuitous violence. The main character "Fievel" was cute without being sugar coated, sickeningly sweet. And the whole thing was wrapped up by one of the most beautiful end credit numbers to date. Who can forget the version of "Somewhere Out There" as sung by Linda Rondstadt & James Ingram at the end of the movie. As for Thumbellina, this was an OK effort, but I would not say that it was Don's best. To be quite honest, the next movie of any real significance in my honest opinion would be Anastasia. This again is a brilliant work that may not have gotten the full credit that it deserves. After this comes Titan AE. Don Bluth really went out on a limb for this one and it shows in the extraordinary special effects and plot. So there you have it... My top of the heap movies produced by Don Bluth.

Peace :)

For reference, here's a list of all of Bluth's movies, ordered from favorite to least favorite:

SECRET OF NIMH 1982 - Obviously... :)

AN AMERICAN TAIL 1986 - I think the great music for this one made it for me. The singing "musical" parts worked well within the movie, I think, and James Horner's score is a work of art. I didn't care for the way they anthropomorphized the mice more than they had for the Secret of NIMH, but I still like the soft, NIMH-like artistic style for the backgrounds and such. The story's a good one too.

TITAN A.E. 2000 - A fun movie with excellent visual effects. I think it sticks out as a departure from Bluth's more traditional settings/plots. Nothing challenging for a Sci-Fi plot, but hey, it doesn't stop it from being fun.

LAND BEFORE TIME 1988 - All right now, admit it. How many of you cried when Little-foot's mom died? (raises own hand) I thought so. The story retreads a lot of the same ground as American Tail's story. Again, I'd say that James Horner's music counts for a lot in this one.

ANASTASIA 1997 - Good story... kinda strange the way they worked Rasputin into it... not sure that part worked all that well; they probably could have changed it or left it out. Escaping from Communist Russia probably is exciting enough without the demons if you do it right. Definitely one of his better movies, tho.

THE RESCUERS 1977 - Waitaminute, isn't this a Disney movie? ;) While I'm sure that Bluth wasn't directing this one, it's still a fun movie to watch. While plot contrivances abound, it still manages to have a decent story. Besides its a mouse movie... it's gotta be good, right?

ROCK-A-DOODLE 1992 - Uncle Dookie! Uncle Dookie! Seriously, the only really good reason for seeing this movie is to see the antics of the evil Grand Duke's bumbling nephew. The rest of it is just... weird. lishrugsli

ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN 1989 - I haven't seen this one for a long time, so I don't remember it that well. I think I thought it was okay, but it too was rather weird for me.

PETE'S DRAGON 1977 - Another Disney thing? Sorry, disappearing dragons and slapstick humor don't really do it for me.

PEBBLE AND THE PENGUIN 1995 - I saw pieces of this... not impressed at all. Only marginally better than Scamper: the Penguin or a slap in the face.

These are the ones I haven't seen:
THUMBELINA 1994 - the previews looked... odd...
TROLL IN CENTRAL PARK 1994 - I know nothing about this movie other than that it exists and didn't do very well. Might've been Direct to Video?
XANADU 1980 - Gesundheit.
BANJO THE WOODPILE CAT 1979 - Other than the fact that this one got Bluth started when he struck out on his own, I know very little about this one. But my local library seems to have a copy, so I'll have to take a look at it.

And that about sums it up.

Oh, and for the record, Bluth wasn't involved in working on AT: Fievel Goes West. It was produced by Steven Speilberg[=http://imdb.com/title/tt0101329/fullcredits]Steven Speilberg, tho.

 I can't belive I posted this dissgusion topic without telling you my favourites

The Secret of Nimh definatly!

An AmaricanTail:
I agree with all of you on this one. This movie combines Nimh like art with wonderful songs and and flowing plot which actualy has some historical similarities as you may or may not know. Since at the time when it was set (1800's) the Jews were being forced to live Russia and in case people have not noticed Fievel's family are Jewish.

Titan A.E:
Being a Star Trek fan I could not help liking this one.

That's all for now!

The Plague Dogs(not a don bluth film)- Now here's an annimated film that no kid should see, regardless if there's a parent watching it with them or not. It's about two dogs that break free from a lab and that's about all I can really say. (I suck at explaining what a movie is really about.) The reason kids shouldn't watch this movie is because it's really graphic and the language is pretty strong. The version I got is edited but I heard the un-edited one has a scene where the two dogs start eating a dead human. If there to be an annimated movie that would have a pg-13 rating on it, this one would be the one to get that high of a rating.

I would recommend to watch it. It's graphic but it's good.

All Dogs go to Heaven - Love it! I use to watch this nonestop as a kid.

Troll in Central Park - No,...just..no. Even after watching this when I was 7 I still didn't like it. I don't like stories about trolls.

An American Tail - YES! Another movie I watched too often with my dad. Too bad I broke the only copy I had. :x

An American Tail Fieval Goes West - Even though Don wasn't involved in this, the animation was great, stuck to the storyline, and great music.

Titan A.E. - Pretty good considering that I own a copy. I like the visual effects and music, and the storyline is ok.

Banjo the Woodpile Cat - We watched this in school when I was in the 2nd grade, we never finished it. From what I saw 20 minutes into the movie it was good.

Pebble and the Panuin - It was...ok.

Rock A Doodle - Really good, another Don peice I just couldn't stop watching.

The Secret of NIMH - The reason why I'm here. I love it, even though it isn't word-for-word from the book.

ANASTASIA - Never seen it all, but it was really good. Got boring in some places though.

Land Before Time - yet ANOTHER Don film I couldn't stop watching, loved it.

Pete's Dragon - Normally I'd like a movie that crosses between live-action and animation,...but this film just didn't cut it for me.

Thumbelina - Another movie that we watched at school but didn't finish, and I'm glad I didn't.

All Dogs go to Heaven -- I watched this one so many times the tape broke.

Troll in Central Park -- It was... weird. Just weird enough for me to watch it over 100 times. I still don't know why.. Guess it's sorta like sponge-bob in that respect.

An American Tail -- Only seen it once on the disney channel. Liked it, because it filled in the blanks a little from it's sequel.

Pebble and the Penguin -- I watched it.. lesse four times. My least favorite Bluth movie.

Rock A Doodle -- Absolutely insane! And I loved it when I was younger. First time I was introduced to the concept of a human turning into an animal.

The Secret of NIMH -- Self explanitory... I'm obsessed with it! :P

Anastasia -- An excellent movie. This one comes in second in my list of favorite animated movies.

Land Before Time -- I saw this one for the first time when I was ...gah, Ican't remember that far back. Not sure anyone could... but I remember watching it. One of the movies that profoundly impacted my life.
