We could, of course, use these forums. I'm not 100% sure of how this community would run it, but I've seen on-forum roleplaying done in the past particularly well. This place[=http://evilcouncil.inkwell.com.ru]This place, in particular, has had some decent RPers in the past. The initial format looks kind of frightening, but the overall organization that arose out of this attempt to standarize RPing has made significant inroads.
Although you won't find an UncleAsriel on their forums anytime soon, I have enountered the likes of the EC here.[=http://www.gamewaredevelopment.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6]here.
Back in the day (before annoying 8-year-olds highjacked it) many talented writers frequented Gameware, among them the Evil Council. The EC are all that keep the torch burning, now, but they still keep things pretty in-line.

Both messenger and the ever-classic MUCK are excellent, but require folks to be on-line at the same time. What if I can't, owing to an unpredictable schedule? The soltion is with a fourm. I make a post on day 1, you reply on thr morning of day 2, I follow up on midnight of day 2, et cetera. It is slower than the way you are used to, but helps to avoid those nasty ypot demons, as well as allowing for more contemplative replying.

I agree completely. For instance, I have a crazy sleeping schedule...well, it's a bit inaccurate to even say I have one, since I basically sleep whenever I want. Some days I'm nocturnal, others, diurnal, depending upon how many hours I rest(which is usually a lot). Others may view me as a lazy bum, but the truth is I'm disabled with bad vision, so I live at home with my folks. It's an easy life.

But, back to the topic, I do all of my RPs at forums. When I read through posts, it gives me more time to think about how I will reply. NIMHmuck seems a bit too 'live and real time' for me. In using forums, it doesn't really matter how long I sleep, as I don't have to be online by a certain time.

Just my two cents.
