This might make you all think.

I was just thinking about NIMH one day (as you do) and I thought to myself if I have the chance to change anything in both of the films what would it be?

Know in my oppinion certainly more then a few thigs can most definatly be changed in Nimh 2 but the one thing about the first one is that I think it would have been good to give Timmy a few more lines. I think this because in the first book it gives you insight into Timmy as a character showing not only his great inquisitive nature but also his understanding of the world around him.

Now I know it might not have been possible to include more lines due to time restrictions and Timmy's role in the story as a bed ridden toddler but I am just saying what I think.

So do you think that anything in any of the films should have been changed to make them just that little bit (or in the case of Nimh 2) alot better?

WOW!!!

I Knew trying to improve on pereftion (and in the case of Nimh 2) was hard but I guess so far none of you can think of a way. Keep trying!

I think the #1 change that I would like is the "romance scene" between Brisby and Justin to be put into the movie. It could have used the extra 5 minutes. :x

First of all..............(takes a breath) THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU and THAAAAAAANK YOU. to Maxx who posted a reply.

I agree with you, it was a very......interesing scene that needed just a little more enthasis. I am not saying they should have develped a relationship between them but to just give them a bitr more time to know more each other would have been nice.

Oops, it seems that I have not posted this year until now! With so much on the to-do-list the Thorn Valley-Forum got a very low priority, so I´m apologizing for that.

Here are some changes to improve "The Secret Of NIMH" that I can currently think of:
1) Adding a longer conversation between Mrs. Brisby and Martin about how he treated Auntie Shrew
2) Lengthen the subtle romance scene between Justin and Mrs. Brisby, which originally ended in the lower elevator chamber
3) Adding a scene in which Mrs. Brisby´s given name is revealed
4) Reveal more details about the escape from NIMH and Jonathan's character
5) Expanding the first scene with the children in the in the sinking house so that we see what happens with Timothy
6) Adding some dialog so that we knew why Mrs. Brisby gave the amulet to Justin
7) Adding a scene at the end that reveals more about Timothy´s character

I have to admit, I was so stunned when I first saw TSoN that I feel reluctant to even consider "improving upon it".

And the reasons are actually bound up in what I thought made the movie so lovable and intriguing: All the unanswered questions.

If, for example, the love scene between Mr. Brisby and Justin had been included all this wonderful ambiguity that has tantalized people for years now might have been lost. There is little fascination to a mystery that no longer is one.

Cheers,

Marcus

I think the only thing I would have liked to have seen improved was the odd bit of strange editing that was probably due to time and/or budget restrictions. An example would be the move was completely ignored even though the Brisby family are at their summer house in the final scene (or at least I think they are. There's the brook and it looks completely different. Correct me if I'm wrong of course). This makes Jeremy seem slightly slow when he notices their house has moved. These are just continuity things though...
Regarding the plot I think everything's been covered above. A bit more about Jonathan and especially the Stone would have been nice, especially and explanation as to why Jenner knows about it and wants it. There's probably a lot of intrigue there that would not have been relevant to the plot but would have been very interesting. Nicodemus might have benefitted from some explanation too, like why does he suddenly have the power of telekinesis?
I realise that the mystery around these has spawned a thousand fan fictions and is probably better than any explanation that could have been given, but just a few extra hints would have been great.

Nope, they're still in the cinder-block house in the garden. Here's why:
  1. The trucks from NIMH are present in the final scene. Mrs. Brisby overheard they were coming the next day when she was in the cage, so I'm pretty sure that is when the scene opens.

[li]Mrs. Brisby is just now bandaging her paws during the opening of the scene. I'd expect that this would have taken place much sooner if she'd already moved to her summer home.

[li]If you watch carefully when Jeremy and Ms. Right take off, they take off from underneath the stone in the garden shown earlier in the film.

[li]Lastly, Timothy is still treated as bedridden, which suggests that the 3 weeks of rest that Mr. Ages prescribed isn't up yet. Doesn't make much sense to go through all that and move anyway... ;) Notice also that Timothy is also looking through the same window glass that was seen during the lullaby scene. I doubt they would have carried that all the way to their summer home.

The 'brook' could be leftover runoff from the thunderstorm of the previous evening... True, I do think that it's pretty miraculous that the soil and plants that are growing on top of the block regrew in just one night -- it doesn't look freshly moved at all. Could be the Rats' doing?

I suppose that this is a bit off topic, but hey, you asked. :)

Oops  Do I feel sheepish… I made a little mistake there, did you spot it?

Good call Simon. You’re right, of course, it is the breeze block. But there are still continuity errors (like you mentioned, the plants miraculously growing back is a slightly frivolous touch but looks nice so I’ll let it slide), but these are all just cosmetic tweaks. Well look at me trying to backtrack.

Acquiescently.
