Just a funnly little question that's been in my head for some time.

"Was Don Bluth a Tolkien fan?"

The question stems mainly from the 'spider scene' in the movie. You think the spider was inspired by Shelob?

I’m surprised this topic gave out so quickly. The straight fantasy elements added by Bluth I’ve always figured to be Tolkien-influenced, especially with the amulet and the re-imagining of Nicodemus. I’ll admit I never read the Rings trilogy straight thru until only 2-3 years ago, after I’d seen the movie trilogy, and I have yet to tackle “The Hobbit” or other works.
