Here's what I want to know.

What are you afraid of the most?

Here's what I'm afraid of...

1. Large insects (Or arachnids) Such as Roaches, centipedes, and taranchulas.
2. Animals that have faces on them (Like the spider that was smashed by the Great Owl.)

Sorry. This has nothing to do with NIMH. But I'm pretty curious about what comes out. :D

Barbarians. Chaos. The collapse of civilization. Mob rule.

Holy Arrow & Jam: Isn't it cool that your avatars are separated by mere frames in the movie? Cool beans.

Anyway, I'm afraid of:

1. Being late to class (assignments, appearance or otherwise)
2. Losing saved documents (pictures, drawings and text; which is why I save everything in a gillion places)

(I put those two first, but they're not in my paranoid box, just deep concerns)

3. Accidentally insulting someone (I never intend to)
4. People being less than honest with me

And that's it. I live on a ranch, so animals and bugs are more than easy to deal with.

You and me both, you wouldn't beleive how many people on Yahoo Groups can take something so little so unbeleivably serious they decide to scream at you from every direction before you can even explain or apologize.

Anyway, my biggest fears are becoming too under-weight, severe weather, and my dog's safety when she's left at home.

Yep, that's it. I think that's somewhat inevitable online, though. When you can't really hear the tone in the message by virtue of the speaker's voice, people subconsciously insert a tone of voice that sometimes changes the whole meaning of the statement/message. You can never be too careful. I guess taking things with a grain of salt is hard to do online.

Yo,

It's been a while since I've posted. Oh well...

My greatest fears:

1) Wasps, hornets, or other things of that nature. lishudderli
2) That someone will take offense to something I said, or rather, of the emotional suffering they might inflict.
3) That a heartfelt product of my mind will be rejected, or picked apart by others.

My greatest fear is to be publicly humiliated, deligitimized, and destroyed reputationally in front of a crowd of my friends and allies by a person of high leadership, profession, elite or authority. To have my strongest cause and passion crushed, to lose all hope and support from all my friends.

You know, some big smartass like Professor Snape, or the Witch King of Angmar, or some professor or teacher or politician or CEO or powerful lobbyist coming out from a crowd of supporters and putting me down and making me feel like a total idiot in front of everyone.

"Idiot boy! You fool! Surely you did not think you could contend with our will. You have failed, your petty cause has been crushed. Go home and accept your defeat."

Does that include a friendly critique on stories and/or other written works? I ask because, here in Texas, I'm a member of the Young Adult Writer's Alliance, which exists to provide an atmosphere and group dedicated to offering peer-editing and peer-critiquing so we might all become better writers. I know some people who don't take any critique very well. Er... in short, what constitutes rejection or picking?

The denigration of society from the seething corruption and sinful desire that dwells within every soul...

.......

Well, I guess being misintepreted is pretty scary, too :D

BTW, Tortillian, speaking of critiques...I'm still waiting for yours on my little story ;)

I've been thinking about this one for a while... And I'm not sure what I'm afraid of. I'd agree with GrizzlyCoon, I think. Physical wounds are much easier to heal than the emotional wounds of rejection and humiliation.

I don't particularly care for horror movies or bugs with stingers or whatnot, either. ;)

What do you mean "have faces on them?"

Like GrizzlyCoon, I will confess to having a fear for ridicule. I suppose you could say that this fear stems from my childhood days when I was the butt of jokes from my so-called peers because of the thick glasses that I wore at the time. Back then, I used to get into ccnstant fights with other boys because of their relentless teasing and bullying. Even now, I am amazed as to how cruel kids can be to one another based on simple external differences.

Peace :D

I'm going with GrizzlyCoon and company. I fear ridicule, which leads to me being afraid of being around people. Just talking on the phone makes me nervous. In fact, I have faced so much ridicule, it seems that I have learned to expect it every time I'm around people.

the Emergency Alert System on the TV and radio. The tones produced such as that TERRIFYING header as well as the attention signal make my ears cold with fear. The voice which narrates the emergency warning is often heavily distorted as if it's not human. It's a very strange fear, but it is one. I remember once I was listening to "Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me" on NPR in the car with my friends, and the Alert system came on because a kid was kidnapped. I actually screamed when the alert came on, and my friends laughed their butts off. It was so embarrassing Grrrr....
