Domo!

As you know I am a NIMH fan beginner.

But here is one question I've always wanted to ask...

What's NIMHmuck?

Yoroshiku!

ligrinsli A fiendish device designed to suck what free time you have out of your life. ;)

Seriously, though, NIMHmuck is a text-based Online Role Playing Game. Just point your telnet or muck client[=http://www.xcalibur.co.uk/MuckClient/]muck client to:
Server: galaxyport.net
Port: 4567
and log in with 'connect guest guest'. There's usually someone around, although it's mostly active between about 5PM to 12PM MST (GMT -7). I play Timothy and Simon there. For more info, take a look at the NIMHmuck website: http://nimhmuck.thornvalley.com

Erk... well, now they can. I'd forgotten to put that list back up. ;) (I'm one of the 'wizstaff' on NIMHmuck, and maintain the content on the website, just in case you didn't know.)

NIMHMuck rocks!!!! I think you'll fit in there just fine if you ever do decide to join. wink it's fun, and once you get use to it, it's easy. My characters are Darla, Cluny, Drusilla and Melaka. Melaka is the best behaved character I've got, but then again, so was Darla....... twisted Melaka is my newest character, so I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with her. Darla was once a nice little girl with a tragic past, but now she's....... Horrible. Cluny is Darla's brother. He was never nice. He's the reason Darla's the way she is. Drusilla is what you could call a sinister hero. She's a good girl in as much as she tries to help people and therefor she is not evil, but she can go from being your best friend to your worst nightmare in two seconds. twisted
Ooops, sorry, I talk to much...... lol

I started NIMHmuck in 1997, but I don't play it much anymore. If you see Jonathan or Robin wandering around, those are my characters.

So do you just download Muck Client or something? Anything else I have to do?

You download and install the MUli client of your choice (MuckClient is fine), then put in the connection info for NIMHmuck (in MuckClient, go to the Session menu and choose New Session):
Host: galaxyport.net
Port: 4567

Then click connect! You'll be given a login screen; just type

connect guest guest

to log in as a guest. Type where to see who is on, and then use page <playername>=<your message here> to send them a message. They should be able to help you from there. Remember to try to log in around 5 - 12 pm MST (GMT -7) to have the best chances of catching other people on. I play Timothy and Simon. Hope to see you there!

How do you get out of being a guest? What do I do when I want to role play? Finally, what is "Idle" that is stopping me from asking questions...

5-12 pm... does that mean 5pm to 12am
or
5am to 12pm?

Simon

Sorry, yes, it's 5pm to 12am MST. If you live in Japan, that'd be 9 am to 4 pm, I think.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'idle'. Maybe if you posted the exact message you're getting?

To get out of being a guest, use the @request command and follow the instructions to get a character.

On both MUCKclient and Telnet, even before I log on it automatically goes on "Protomuck"? What's that?

It seems like it's something totally different. I couldn't go to the Farm, Colony, etc.

(Sorry for asking so many questions...)

Lol. ProtoMUCK is the name of the server that makes the MUCK work. On most MUCKs, that screen is replaced by a more customized welcome screen. The Wizzes on NIMHmuck just haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. :P

Well, it's been about 2 months since I started going on NIMHmuck and found it interesting chatting with people. Too bad school started and I can only log on on the weekends (darn the international dateline). It's also fun having fun creating a character of your own. I'm not used to RPing yet (I kinda know why but I'm too embarrassed to say it...) but I really got myself a new hobby.

Currently there's a story in Japan that's popular and it's all about a man chatting online with others and getting advice about how to communicate with a woman that he liked. I kind of understood the fact that chatting with people you don't know is pretty fun. (What a wonderful timing for this story to be popular!)

I have to thank The Secret of NIMH for giving me this oppurtunity.

say hi to Hiro and Ben when you see them!

I'm already on winter break and have nothing to do...so I joined. Cool little community we have going on. XD

P.S. Sorry to hear about your dad, Timothy, hope he gets better.

Do you have a list of commands, Simon/Timothy? I slowed down Vincent and Cadmus today because I didn't even know how to communicate with them in character. It took us awhile to fix it, but we had fun.

I need to get the NIMHmuck website back up. In the meantime, here you go: http://web.archive.org/web/20080512085912/http://www.nimhmuck.org/help/commands
