If anyone remembers, Simon posted about this some time ago, around mid-2009 when a few websites posted news about there being a new movie based on Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH in the works by Paramount, at the time a script was being developed by the director of the Illusionist, Neil Burger. It is apparently going to be a live-action with cg characters movie, in a similar format as Alvin and the Chipmunks or Yogi Bear, although I cringe to compare it to those movies. It might also possibly be a fully cg movie, I'm not sure. I looked around for this thread, but couldn't find it again, strangely enough. There is still info about this, but most of it is fairly old and I've heard no new news since, so no idea if this is still something in the works or if it has been buried like alot of hollywood projects? One thing I'm also looking forward to is the possiblity of them making a movie of Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series, but all the articles of that are very old, and predict the movie coming out this year, which obviously isn't happening, as there'd be trailers out by now, so that must have been seriously delayed or altogether scrapped. Sorry, Foundation isn't really related here but to get back on track, here's some of the sources about the new NIMH movie:

Most sites predict its release in 2013. So what do you think guys? You know, wether this movie is good or not, I'm at least excited that Robert C. O'brien's classic is loved enough to recieve this kind of attention. And obviously that movie will help renew interest again in the book and in the Secret of NIMH, so we can all look forward to new released versions of the book and animated film probably set to coincide with the new film, and no doubt merchandise coming out all relating to NIMH, so I look very much foward to this.

In this early stage we know nothing about what this film is going to be like, and I honestly can't imagine, the book it's based on is such a rich story that as long as it doesn't just disregard the book completely, it should be interesting. If this film just tries to be another cutesy, saccharine eye-rollingly painful childish humor talking animal movie, then too bad, but I kind of don't think it will be, as this is not based on a saturday morning cartoon as most of those kinds of films are. And as long as M. Knight Shamylan doesn't get his hands on directing, there is much hope this could be good. I look forward to seeing the whole NIMH cast get re-made in a lifelike cg realistic form. I'm actually crossing my fingers and kind of hopeful this might be a sort of epic fantasy-adventure style kind of film in the same vein as the Guardians of Ga'hoole was, creating a rich and vibrant visual world and culture for the rats of NIMH and their awesome underground civilization. With Neil Burger writing the script, it's sure to have some edge of darkness and intrigue, right?

I would love to have a more faithful novel adaption. It should all be in CG though, because half-CG, half-life action films creep me out.

It is funny that all the info about this on the internet is around a day or two of the news story, than nothing. Personalty I hope it is being made, but then again I wanted a sequel to The Secret of NIMH also. Be careful for what you wish for I guess.

I, too, wanted a sequel to Secret of NIMH. That sequel has still not been made. Timmy to the Rescue is NOT the sequel that I wanted.
