I've uploaded some more art from Henny, who keeps providing me with absolutely gorgeous pics of NIMH backgrounds. I've also uploaded some art from Michael B... almost 2 years after he'd emailed me the pics. x.x Oh well, better late than never.

Due to some abuse of the fan art gallery comments by spammers, I've restricted posting comments to logged-in users only. The fan art gallery user system is separate from the forum's, so if you haven't, you'll need to register there to comment. I'm hoping to have a future system that will unify the various posting things under one user account, but don't hold your breath.

I'm in the process of transferring ThornValley.com to another registrar. You may be briefly unable to access the website, though I hope to have things straightened out as quickly as possible. I'll post again when the domain has been transferred successfully.

Thorn Valley will be going down sometime tomorrow (Saturday, Dec 13) in
order for me to prepare to move out of my apartment for graduation. Sorry to do this to you folks again, but there's no way I can avoid this one. Look for the website to be back up and hopefully improved around the new year!

Hey everyone.

It's been a while since updates... No, I haven't given up on Thorn Valley; it just seems to handle itself just fine most of the time. I still have that revamp that I'm working on, though; I'll probably release that sometime in January.

Anyway, here's the big news: Henny v. d. K. (from the Netherlands) has graciously submitted a fine selection of gorgeous background images from the Secret of NIMH, which you can see here: http://www.thornvalley.com/gallery/fan/v/studio/backgrounds/

There may be more where that came from, too.

Also, I made a minor tweak to gallery that most people should welcome: clicking on a scaled-down image takes you to the full-sized version and vice versa now.

As you may have noticed, Thorn Valley is now back to normal once more. I received the new hardware a couple days ago. I was able to install a new motherboard, CPU and Memory, and after a small amount of reconfiguration, the server was back up to speed.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to those of you that donated money to help offset the cost of the new hardware. With the funds raised ($180 total), I was able to get not just replacement hardware, but *good* replacement hardware that should fill the needs of this site for some time to come. Again, thank you!

For those of you who are curious, here are the specs of the new hardware:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (dual core)
MSI K9NBPM2-FID AM2 NVIDIA Quadro NVS 210S Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Kingston ValueRAM 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Memory

In short, if you thought Thorn Valley was faster after the move, it's screaming now. If you notice Thorn Valley being slow, it's almost certainly a network issue.

Email currently doesn't work for all things, so registrations may not work immediately. Please contact me if you need any help. (Fixed: Installed an MTA that should do what I need)
The Studio Art gallery is temporarily offline, due to an incompatibility with PHP5. I'll try to upgrade it soon. (Fixed: moved the studio art stuff into a sub-album of the Fan Art Gallery. The Fan Art gallery will become the main gallery for everything from now on.)

Many of you know that I've been planning to move to a new server with better capacity and so forth. This is still going to happen.

What most of you don't know is that I've lost my favorable hosting situation. My server is currently hosted at my dad's place of work; however, he is going to be laid off in the first part of August. This leaves me in something of a pickle, since I'm not sure where I'll be able to put the server now.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to find someone with a good connection in the area that wouldn't mind sharing it with me for a meager amount of money, but I'm not sure how well that'll work out. As a last resort, I can host it on my cable internet connection, however, this is likely to be much less reliable and possibly even slower, despite the upgraded server. BTW, if anyone lives in the Utah Valley area of Utah, and has some leads on cheap hosting for my server, or if you have a place I can host about 6-7 websites with moderate-low traffic and a /lot/ of disk space, plus a MUCK server, PLEASE contact me!

I have already made backups of the websites hosted on Thorn Valley, and I can't guarantee that posts, art, or whatever made after July 20 will be included in the server move after this point. If you decide to post anything, be sure to have backup copies if it's important to you.

After some consideration, I have decided to close the Robin's Fanfiction Archive forum for new posts--but never fear! As part of this, I have opened up a forum on Robin's site itself. You can get to it here:

If you're a budding author with ideas, you'll have plenty of resources at your disposal now, such as a "Writer's Workshop" forum, where you can get help with ideas, editing and such, and a blog where you can post thoughts you might have, participate in story contests and much more. As a reader, you'll be able to comment on other people's stories and such, as well as participate in polls.

All of the posts from this forum will remain here and you can reply to them for a limited time only, probably about a month, before I will close the forum to replies as well.
